Each portion of the health team plays a unique part in regard to the health of our students. Our health technicians are on campus dealing with a majority of the first aid injuries and illnesses of our students, as well as all the various tasks involved with the health records of the students per each site. Each health technicians' office is adjacent to the secretaries office, except for the high school. The health clerks stay extremely busy making sure all the students' records are compliant with state regulations, in regard to immunizations records, CHDP's, and mandated forms. They are also busy ordering medical and office supplies, assisting the health techs with emergency cards, updating immunizations, and assisting them as needed. The health clerks assist the school nurse in performing many activities from kindergarten round up, color blindness screening for all first grade boys, mandated vision and hearing screening for many of the grades, scoliosis screening, and basically helping out wherever health care is needed. The nurse stays busy managing the health services of the district along with the title of the health services coordinator and all that involves. The nurse does case management of all medically fragile students who require specialized health care needs. The nurse oversees many students who have had recent surgery or diseases and assists school staff with a plan to ensure all the student's needs are met. Also, the nurse serves as a liaison when communication is necessary working with other medical professionals, parents, and school staff to make sure we are giving the best health care within the school setting. The nurse also oversees and teaches the Family Life curriculum of our students, which covers a broad area of material. She enjoys going into the classroom and teaching health lessons to the elementary grade students. There are many meetings the nurse attends, such as SOS,SARB,CRC,IEP's and MCOE. |
