Mrs. Nichols was born and raised in Dos Palos California. She attended Merced College for 2 years, then transferred to CSU Fresno for her Bachelor's Degree and Teaching Credential. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education. In 1992, Mrs. Nichols started teaching at Dos Palos High School. Teaching was something that she was always interested in. She was also inspired by some great teachers in the Dos Palos school system. What she doesn't enjoy about teaching are the changing of students' attitudes, including the over all feeling of apathy towards their education. She does enjoy that every day is different when working with students.
Mrs. Nichols is more than happy teaching Home Economics. If she could do anything else, she would go to Culinary School to learn the techniques of being a chef and running a restaurant. Mrs. Nichols has worked outside of the education field. She worked on the family ranch while she was growing up. Then she worked in retail sales to put herself through college. She worked for the Merced County Private Industry Training Department as a counselor for the Summer Youth Program before being hired at DPHS.
Her original goal was to teach Ag, but Mrs. Nichols was hired at DPHS at the last minute to fill in for the Home Ec. teacher that had suddenly resigned. She figured she would teach a year at DPHS, then look for an Ag position either in DPHS or somewhere else. However, she found out that she enjoyed teaching the class and decided to continue and has not regretted it.
'Finish what you have started' is her motto. Her advice to us is to always pay attention, no matter where we are or what we are doing. We will learn more by being aware and paying attention to what is going on than any book can teach us. Mrs. Nichols is married and has a 4-year old .
