Course Description - This advanced course is designed to familiarize the student with the Internet and components of telecommunication. As well and provide instruction in building and designing web pages. Students learn how to use e-mail, use the Internet, Students build their own web pages. Students learn about 3d design and Graphic creation and manipulation and create power point demonstrations.

Goals:

The goals of this course are to build on the skills learning in Computer Applications 1 and develop a more advanced understanding of the computer and its impact on businesses. Students will gain knowledge of telecommunication and the skills necessary for Internet operation and how it applies to the business world.

Course Objectives:

Electronic Mail - Define electronic mail and identify several uses. Send electronic mail. Receive electronic mail and reply to it. Use electronic symbols to express emotions and hidden meanings. Write an electronic letter.

Internet Adventures - Learn how to use the internet to shop, make vacation reservations, find a job, and much more.

Web Pages - Develop web pages. Create a new page. Insert Images. Assign text styles. Create lists. Insert horizontal rules. Insert links and anchors. Create tables. View and Edit HTML source code. Complete web page tutorial. Create and maintain web page for departmental, club, and other organizations. Create and maintain web page for self.

Adobe Photoshop - Develop, create, and manipulate images. Topics include Inserting Images, Selecting Sprites, Moving Sprites, Duplicating Sprites, Resizing, Adjusting Hue, Enhancing Colors, Using Art Effects, Creating and Transferring Sprites, Flipping, Rotating, Arranging, Creating Text Sprites, Adding Outlines, Adding Drop Shadows, and Creating Custom Colors.

Movie Maker  Students will create a movie using Movie Maker on a topic in their core curriculum courses.  

Internet Space Builder- Creating a scene, Control Cameras, Include shapes into scene, Change Shapes Height, Create Walls, Ceilings, Doors, Windows, Furniture, Texture, Download Furniture.

Typing Master : One Lesson will be due per week and two - two minute timings per week. 

Benchmarks: 

  1. Students will be able to send and receive e-mail, create address books, send attachments, forward and reply to e-mails, create folders, and delete e-mails.
  2. Students will be able to navigate the Internet.  This includes searching, using directional buttons, copy and paste, creating and managing favorites folders, and using the most common tools included in the web browser.
  3. Students will create an Movie using the program Movie Maker.
  4. Students will be able to use the graphic software Photoshop.  This will include the basics of using Photoshop tools filters, and photo imaging.
  5.  Students will be able to create basic web pages.
  6. Students will be able to create a 3d structure (house) that includes windows, doors, roof, furniture, and landscaping.
  7. Through out the year students will improve their typing skills

 

Evaluation:

Students turn in assignments weekly. These assignments are evaluated and returned in a timely manner with a computerized grade print out. Late assignments will be accepted up to two weeks after initial due date and will be graded at a lesser value.

90-100 = A
80-89 =   B
70-79 =   C
69- 60 =  D
Below =  F

 Classroom Management:

Students are expected to respect teachers, peers, and equipment.  Students are expected to turn in their assignments in a timely fashion.  Late assignments will be scored at a lesser value and accepted up to two weeks after initial due date.  Students will be warned once before being sent for disciplinary action.  Cheating is handled per student handbook.

Homework:

There is no homework in this class.  All assignments should be completed during class time.  If a student is absent they can catch up in the LRC or in Room 300 after school.   This lab is open on Monday - Thursday 3-4 pm.
