Text Box: Recently Dos Palos High School was visited by members of the WASC association. WASC stands for Western Association for Schools and Colleges. These people survey the school to tell whether or not DPHS is eligible for accreditation. The most accreditation the school can get this year is one, two, or three years, and the school officials are hoping for three. If the school does not get accredited, high school student’s credits won’t count when they apply for college. However, the school has made major efforts at improvement over the years. It has tried to address all the areas of concern listed in the previous WASC report.
The WASC people that came to DPHS this year were from a variety of different places, like San Jose, Berkeley and Tracy. They were really nice, and cool to talk to. They said we would be getting the school’s results back in six Text Box: WASC visits DPHS

Text Box: Ernesto Cortez is starting an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) class at the Bryant Middle School. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The classes cost $30.00 a month, or $5.00 per practice day. The classes will be held in the gym.
Mr. Cortez is holding these classes to introduce Martial Arts into Dos Palos. The different Martial Arts taught in these classes cover all aspects of competition fighting: Boxing (for punches), Kickboxing (for kicks), Judo (for wrestling), Jujitsu (for submissions), and Mauy Thai (for knees and elbows). Mr. Cortez uses his own equipment: pads, gloves, and mats. The only things students need to bring are mouthpieces, clothing, and hand wraps. The classes will be starting immediately.
